Patricia Forsythe, CFRE (retired), is a native of Arkansas. She grew up in Michigan and eventually landed in California, where she earned a B.S. in History from California State University, Los Angeles, and an MSLS in Library Science from the University of Southern California. Upon graduating, she came upon the reality of reduced funding for libraries, applied for a job at California Institute of Technology, in the Development Office (she thought it was about buildings). Thus began her career as a fundraiser, first at Caltech, then at the Iowa City, Iowa Public Library, and then at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library.
