Imam Elturk was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1955. He immigrated to America in 1976 amid the start of the Lebanese civil war. With a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics, he worked as an Electronics Engineering consultant for many years. He became interested in learning about Islam and the Qur’an in 1989. He then studied under the Islamic thinker and scholar Dr. Israr Ahmad (1996-2001). Courses include, Theology (Aqidah, Faith and Tawheed, Monotheism), Modes of Worship, Sirah (Prophetic tradition and methodology), Exegesis of the Qur’an, Hadith (Sayings of the Prophet Muhammad), and Islamic Social Sciences.
Imam Elturk is very active in the Muslim community of North America, both as a leader and a speaker. He has been propagating the message of the Qur’an to Muslims and non-Muslims alike through his regular Friday sermons and lectures in Mosques and other facilities all across America. He is a publically engaged Muslim leader and a leading interfaith activist in the Detroit Area.

A member of the American Society for Religious and Cultural Understanding (ASRCU) Executive Board. ASRCU is a dawah (propagation) organization focuses on prisons and correctional facilities in Michigan.
